SOURCE WATER PROTECTION PROGRAM ROAMINGWOOD SEWER & WATER ASSOCIATION V E E P (Volunteer Environmental Educator Program) PURPOSE: The overall purpose of the program is to protect the groundwater, which the community drinks and uses for so many other purposes. Although many of the program activities apply to our community’s immediate geographical area (that area within a 5-mile radius of Lake Ariel), the water education concepts taught in the workshops can be applied throughout the state of Pennsylvania and the country. OUR GOAL:
One of the main ways V E E P plans to protect the water is the education of our residents through volunteer talks to teachers, students, adult groups, and at business and civic organizations meetings. We hope to explain in a clear way where the water supply comes from and how it can be polluted by surface activity. AS A VOLUNTEER:
Volunteers will learn a great deal of what they need to know about the source water and its protection through 6 – 4 hour workshops, which are administered by our program. This program has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA-DEP). Roamingwood has received Grant money from this agency to run the overall program including the workshops. |
