COMMON GOLF RULES

Slow play affects everyone playing behind you. A conscious effort to play your round in a timely manner will make the round of golf more enjoyable for everyone.
Put an identification mark on your ball. Know the ball you are playing with. If you cannot identify your ball, it is considered lost.
Count your clubs. No more than 14 allowed.
The teeing ground is within two club lengths of the tee markers (not closer to the hole).
Winter Rules Prevail: In the fairway, you may roll the ball over, or move it within a club length (no closer to the hole). In the rough, you must play it as it lies.

PLAYING THE BALL

If your ball lies in a bunker or a water hazard, don't touch the ground before your downswing.
If your club strikes a ball more than once in a single stroke, count the stroke and add a penalty stroke.
If you play the wrong ball, YOU incur a two-stroke penalty and must then play the correct ball.

WATER HAZARDS

All ground and water within the hazard is part of the water hazard. There must be reasonable evidence the ball is in the hazard or else it is a lost ball. You may not ground your club in the hazard. You may:
1. Play the ball where it lies without penalty.
2. Drop a ball behind the hazard along a line formed by the hole and the point where the ball last entered the hazard - penalty one stroke.
3. Play your next stroke from the exact spot where the original ball was struck, penalty one stroke.

LATERAL WATER HAZARDS

You may:
1. Play the ball where it lies without penalty.
2. Drop a ball behind the hazard along a line formed by the hole and the point where the ball last entered the hazard - penalty one stroke.
3. Play your next stroke from the exact spot where the original ball was struck - penalty one stroke.
4. Drop within 2 club lengths of point where ball entered the hazard.

PUTTING GREEN

You may repair ball marks and old hole plugs on the putting line, not spike marks.
You may lift, and if desired, clean your ball on the putting green. You must mark and replace it on the exact spot.
If YOUR ball played from the putting green strikes the flagstick or another ball on the green, YOU incur a two-stroke penalty.
Always hole out. There is no such thing as a "gimmee".

LOST BALL OR OUT OF BOUNDS

If your ball is out of bounds (white stakes), you MUST play another ball at the spot from which the original was played - penalty one stroke.
If your ball MAY be list, or out of bounds, you may play a provisional ball before you go forward to look for the original. You must announce your intention to do so. If your original ball turns out to be safely in play, you MUST abandon the provisional ball.
If your ball IS lost, or out of bounds, add a penalty stroke and play the provisional.
A ball is out of bounds when the entire ball is out of bounds. You may stand out of bounds to play a ball that is inbounds.

OBSTRUCTIONS

Obstructions are artificial (man-made) objects. Movable obstructions may be moved no matter where they are located. If your ball moves, replace it without penalty.
Objects defining out-of-bounds such as fence posts or stakes and immovable objects are NOT obstructions.

BALL AT REST MOVED

If your ball is moved by you, except as permitted by the Rules, or it moves after you have addressed it, add a penalty stroke and replace the ball.
If your ball is moved by someone else or another ball, replace it without penalty to you.

ABNORMAL GROUND CONDITIONS

If your ball lies in casual water or ground under repair, you may drop without penalty within one club length of the nearest point of relief not nearer the hole., On the putting green, place in the nearest position which affords maximum relief and is not nearer the hole.

LIFTING, DROPPING AND PLACING

If a ball to be lifted is to be replaced, its position must be marked.
When dropping, stand erect, hold the ball at shoulder height and arm's length and drop it.
