Emergency Response

Hideout Emergency Response Team

We now have helicopter service in the area located at the Wilkes Barre/Scranton International Airport. The closest service of this kind up until this point was in Sayre, Pennsylvania. It would take 20-30 minutes to get a helicopter to transport in an emergency. With this new service, the time has been cut to 7-9 minutes from the time of dispatch to landing at the Hideout. The Hideout has two designated landing zones established on property. One is at the Marina parking lot and the other is at the Campground baseball field. The Wayne County Communications Center in Honesdale has the flight coordinates to relay to the responding helicopter to get them to the Hideout with no problem.

Some of the indications for using Life Flight would be:

1. Would the amount of time saved by helicopter transport have a positive effect on the patients’ recovery or survival?
2. Would road conditions, weather or other factors effecting ground transportation seriously delay patient access to advanced life support?
3. Can the ambulance service provide clinical skills and equipment necessary to care for patients during ground transportation?
4. Is the shortest transport time important to patient outcome?

The helicopter service is Geisinger Life Flight III. It is operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They are complemented by a staff of EMT/EMT P trained communication specialists as well as professional pilots and mechanics. This is another advantage for the people of the HIdeout when there is a serious emergency.

You can see your Hideout Emergency Response Team is busy and prepared to respond for emergencies within the Hideout. We hope you never have to call but if you do, don’t wait, call. We will be there.
