Minutes of Meeting - 9/10/2010

The meeting was called to order by Marsha Goldstein, Chairperson, who thanked all who prepared foods for our August’s meeting, recipes for some of the items are available if anyone is interested. Following today’s meeting, Joan Martinez will instruct us in line dancing.
In the absence of Secretary Sue Broadhurst, Carol King took the minutes.
Fran Molloy, Treasurer, reported that HAA had a balance of $3,588.13 on August 13, 2010, that $30.00 was deposited, checks for a total of $54.81 were written, leaving a balance of $3,563.32 on Sept. 10, 2010.
In the absence of Kathy Pfaeffle, Marsha Goldstein reported that Marilyn Hamilton had passed away recently. Marilyn was not a member of our organization, but many of us knew her and remember her fondly.
Jean David reported that the ‘Legends’ show will take place on Oct. 1, 2 and 3, she is taking reservations: $15.00 per person, which includes the show and appetizers, space is getting limited, do not wait to make your reservation. Anyone interested in accompanying the ‘Legends’ to a ‘Nashville’ performance Music Box Theatre in Swoyersville on Sept. 17th, please contact Jean. Cost is $32 which includes dinner and the performance.
Julie Gauci reported that we will have our ‘farewell’ luncheon (farewell to summer, farewell to those leaving the area for the winter) at the Boathouse Restaurant on Friday, Oct. 8. This will also constitute our October meeting. Seventeen people have already signed up, please let either Julie Gauci or Dorothy Hadley know of your menu choice. Marsha Goldstein said she would e-mail members to remind them of this event.
Marsha Goldstein thanked Carole Pollock for presenting the Storytime reading program this summer, it was a big success.
Marsha Goldstein also reported that voting for the new HAA officers will take place 11/12 (not 10/8 as was announced at our August meeting). The new chairperson and officers will take over at the December meeting which will also be our holiday luncheon, Marsha Goldstein will give further details on this soon.
Our November meeting will take place on Nov. 12th and will feature jewelry and craft items for purchase. Julie Gauci and Dorothy Hadley volunteered to cover hospitality.
Debbie Dahmer from Recreation announced that there will be a bus trip to Bethel Woods Center on Sept. 19th. The theme at the Center that day will be Earth Day and Autumn, there will be a live bird presentation, and yoga demonstration, there is also a fall festival, craft display and a farmers market. Admission to the Woodstock Museum is $10.50 for seniors, slightly more for non-seniors. This trip may be weather-dependent, contact Recreation for further details.
Marsha Goldstein reminded members that we have the Extravaganza sale coming up in February, this is our biggest fund raising event which enables us to continue to contribute to the community. Carol LoPiccolo has already begun to receive donations of items to be sold. Members are encouraged to prepare gift-baskets which will be raffled as another means to raise funds at this event; please remind any members who may be leaving the area for the winter that they can drop off baskets to Sue Broadhurst.

Committee for the Arts Draft Minutes of Meeting - May 4, 2010 CO-CHAIRPERSON Jean David and Millie Roselli. SECRETARY Susan Broadhurst. TREASURER Fran Molloy SUNSHINE: Jeanette Bond and Kathy Pfaeffle. PUBLICITY: Marilyn Farkas. Members enjoyed a wonderful outing to Skytop Lodge. Everyone had the opportunity to make a real flower centerpiece to take home. A wonderful lunch was enjoyed by all. Marsha thanked Mary Fentress for planning the outing. The next meeting will be the second Friday in June. May 25 is the Estee Lauder demo. Since no one volunteered to chair the trip to MacKenzie Childs, it has been cancelled. Also, there will not be an Art Auction. The Mah Jong Tournament is still on, as is the Longwood Gardens trip in June. Millie Roselli handed out information on the trip to the Shawnee Playhouse. Susan Broadhurst reported that more entrys are needed for the Needle Arts Show, to be held on May 29. The deadline for sending in an entry form is May 15. Enid Miller reported on the Scavenger Hunt: What’s hiding in the Hideout? Pick up info at Recreation starts July 9 and 10. ($2 entry fee). Turn in findings by July 16 at noon. A Barbeque will be held at 5PM to announce winners. ($5) Jean David read a very touching farewell letter from past Chairperson, Joan Greve. She is moving to Florida. She will certainly be missed, but we wish her well. After exploring the beautiful building and grounds, we left for home. Jean thanked Marie Patti for last month’s program. Susan Broadhurst thanked Chris Clancy for stepping in last minute to take last month’s minutes. The minutes for the March meeting were read. Marie Rebhun motioned to accept, Fran Molloy seconded, so moved. Fran Molloy gave the Treasurer’s report. Marie Maloney motioned to accept, Janet Carr seconded, so moved. Kathy Pfaeffle reported that a card was sent to Ellie Shelko. Kathy also asks everyone to correct her phone number on their membership list. The correct number is: 698-0887. Jean read a thank you note from the Food Pantry. There was no report from the scholarship committee. Vicki Barcarola reported that “Fiddler on the Roof,” will be performed at the lodge on April 25 at 2PM. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 children, and $2 for 2 and under. The Spring luncheon will be at Skytop on May 7. Everyone will make a centerpiece and take a tour of the gardens. Reservations must be in by April 20. Price is $35 for members, and $40 for non-members. Send checks to Mary Fentress, 86 The Hideout. There was no report on the trip to Mackensie Childs museum. Susan Broadhurst reported on the Needle Arts Show to be held on May 29. Entry forms were available at the meeting, they are at the Recreation desk, and there is one in the April Hideabout. All entry forms must be submitted by May 15. Items should be brought to the Art Center on May 28. Millie Roselli reported that the trip to see “The Music Man” at the Shawnee Inn will be on Wed. August 18. Tickets are $41. It was voted not to take children. Pat Ware reported on the Scavenger Hunt to be held from July 9 through July 16. There will be a barbeque at the end. Cost $2 per entry and $5 for the barbeque. Debbie Dahmer reported that the bus trip to Longwood Garden’s will be on June 15. The price is $44. It was voted to subsidize HAA members, so their price will be $34.The bus will leave The Hideout at 8:30AM, and leave gardens for return trip at 6PM. Jean David reported that the new “Legends” production will be on October 1, 2 and 3. Anyone interested in working on this production, should come to the Meet and greet on May 19 at the Lodge. Marilyn Farkas motioned to close the business meeting. Kathy Pfaeffle seconded, and it was carried. The meeting was called to order and everyone was welcomed by Chairperson Marsha Goldstein. Dave Pierce, a representative from the census bureau gave information on job opportunities for collecting census data. Marsha thanked Millie and Lorraine for the job well done for the holiday party. Fran gave the Treasurer’s Report, Marie Maloney motioned to accept, Joyce Lagrosa seconded and it was carried. Marsha reported that thank you notes were received for gifts and cards sent out by Sunshine. Maddie Spira reported on Programs. Aurora LoVerde volunteered to chair the Mackenzie Chids trip. Enid Miller will chair the Scavenger Hunt. Sign-up sheets were passed around for working at the Extravaganza. Merridy Gersten and Lorraine Estelle are in charge of the bake sale. Carol LoPiccolo and Marie Morales are in charge of the white elephant. Carol asked that all white elephant items be brought to her house, 2286 Ridgeview Drive, (698-0160). Libby Dimmick and Chris Clancy are in charge of tickets. There will be two places to buy tickets this year, so we will need twice as many workers. Marsha announced that workers are also needed at the end of the day, because we need to empty the space for an evening event. Everyone should be getting their baskets to Carole Maguire. Snowbirds dropped theirs off already. Marsha made a motion to continue the prizes for the baskets that receive the most tickets, Carole Maguire seconded and it was carried. A sign-up sheet for hospitality at meetings was sent around. Lynda Cardinale, Jill Forget, Sue Dimmick are on for February, Carole Betsch, Marilyn Farkas and Julie Gauci for March, Kimberly Klein. Lorraine Estelle and Susan Broadhurst are on for April. Marie Maloney, May, and Dorothy Hadley, June. We hope the snowbirds will pick up the summer months. A discussion on the scholarships given to graduating high school seniors, resulted in a decision to continue the scholarships, with a stronger effort to get more applicants. Marsha asked that suggestions for charities be made by the March meeting. The summer fundraiser, (a wine and cheese party with an art auction) will make a donation of half of the profits to the St. Joseph Center. Marsha welcomed back returning members, Sue Dimmick and J. Martinez. A reminder was given to attend the grand opening for the RSC tomorrow at noon. A new slate of officers will be needed for next year. Please bring recommendations to the March meeting. Victoria Barcarola announced that she will be giving a free singing lesson to children at the Hamlin library on Tuesday. She would like to bring more music and theatre activity to the Hideout. ************** Hideout Committee for the Arts Meeting Minutes - January 15, 2010 The meeting was called to order by President Marsha Goldstein. She extended greetings to all new members and thanks to all who worked to make the February Extravaganza a great success. Old Business 1. Sec. Susan Broadhurst was absent. No past minutes were read. 2. Treasurer Fran Molloy presented report. We made $2946 at the Extravaganza. Current balance $5,930.30. 3. Sunshine Committee chair Kathy Pfaeffle was absent. Marsha acknowledged thank you notes received. 4. Carole Maguire presented checks to the ladies who had created the three baskets that received the highest number of tickets at the Extravaganza. Winners were Iris Spinella & Mary Fentress for “Wine Basket,” Jackie Nofi & Merridy Gerstein for “Toys & Games,” and Diane Dukin and Sandy Goldfarb for “Money Tree.” Thanks to all members who created the beautiful baskets. 5. Hospitality today was prepared by Sue Dimmick and Jill Forget. Marsha announced that the sign-up sheet for future meetings was available. 6. Chris Clancy reported that we will be giving two $800 scholarships for graduating seniors who will be studying the arts. Eligible students are either sons/daughters of Hideout Members (this includes those whose permanent residence is not the Hideout) and students at Western Wayne HS. Information and applications are in the Hideabout, the Extra, and distribution at Western Wayne is being coordinated by Joanne Tagle, Head Counselor. To date, we have not received any applications. 7. Marsha introduced Nicole Jorgensen, our new Recreation Director. Nicole will have responsibility for all recreational activities including golf course and ski hill. We welcome Nicole and wish her well in her new role. 8. In June we will have a bus trip to MacKenzie Childs furniture in Aurora, NY. This will include lunch and a winery visit. Date to be announced. Other special events include a Scavenger Hunt in July and a trip to the Yeungling Brewery in September. 9. Carol Pollock will coordinate summer Story Time. List circulated for volunteers. Carol will work with Nicole to plan July/August events for young children. 10. MahJongg tournament will be on Tues., August 3 in the Clubhouse. Four hours of play. Marsha Reingold and Sue Franke are coordinating the event and are looking for non-players to assist them. 11. Reviewed list of Monthly Meeting programs and special sponsored events. Our May meeting will be a welcome back luncheon for new members and snowbirds, tour and centerpiece making class at Skytop Resort. We will carpool from the Art Center. $35 for members; $40 non-members. Checks sent to Mary Fentress. Marsha noted that there can be no refunds once check has been turned in. New Business 1. Charity: Group decided to donate $150 each to St. Thomas More Food Pantry and local Special Olympics. Several other charities were considered, and were selected by show of hands. 2. Victoria Barcarola announced that there will be a Kathy Jenkins production of “Fiddler on the Roof” at the Lodge on Sun., April 25,- 2PM. Adults $6, children $4, free for children under 2. Volunteers requested to assist with ticket sales on day of event, props, seating and lights. Thanks to members who volunteered to help Victoria. 3. Suggestions for additional events a. Millie Roselli will work with Nicole Jorgensen to arrange bus trip to Shawnee Playhouse in July or August. This will include lunch plus a show. Productions include “The Music Man,” “The Secret Garden,” and several others. b. Maddie Spira suggested a trip to the Martha Stewart Show taping. Linda Dimitrikakis will work with Maddie to arrange trip for Fall 2010 or Spring 2011. c. Merridy volunteered to present an Astrology workshop at a future meeting.
