Hideout Woodworkers Draft Minutes of Meeting - May 18, 2010 

The meeting was called to order at 7p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 29 members present including President Vito Montone, Vice President Al Auricchio and Treasurer Jim Fleming. Vice President Charlie David and Secretary Dave Testa were not present.

Minutes:

In Dave Testa’s absence, Bill Dimmick read the minutes from the April 13 meeting. Motion to accept minutes as corrected was approved by those present.

Treasurer’s Report:

Jim Fleming presented the Treasurer’s report for April, 2010 and a copy is on file. On a motion by Bill Wagner and second by Bob Wiegand, the report was approved by all.

Building:

Sam Pantiliano indicated he has cleared out the spare room and has some items to be disposed.

Safety:

Al Weinburg explained the red disposal-can which is for disposal of oil rags and should not be used for any other materials. Bob Wiegand explained the fire hazard of improper use of this container.

Tools & Purchase:

Joe Nelson was not available for this meeting and Tom K. indicated there were no major purchases and the belt for the sander was replaced.

Training:

Ken Wenz reported there were no training sessions but will schedule one for the new members. Vito welcomed new member Armand Federico and potential member Mark Williams.

Sickness & Distress:

Jane Reinhardt is doing well. Jim Lagrosa’s wife had knee surgery. Mike Nestor was by the shop and is doing well.

Publicity:

Fred Beermann indicated all items are on schedule and reminded all the cut off dates regarding publishing items in the Hideabout, Extra, Channel 20, and webpage.

Social Scene:

Al Auricchio reviewed the York trip. A good time was had by all. Al will check to see about dates and cost for next year. Al reminded members to sign up for the baseball game on July 16 at $13 per ticket and 50 tickets are available.

Craft Fair:

Old Business: Members present were asked to see Rafael Fernandez regarding the raffles book for sale or purchase this evening. Vito indicated the Executive Board has decided not to add the cost of the book of raffle tickets to the membership fees therefore the procedure will remain as previously established. Vito briefly described the new Hideout Woodworkers Rules and Guidelines of Operation. Ben Carapella distributed copies to all present and additional copies will be made available. Vito asked all members to review this packet and a discussion and vote will be held at the next meeting.

New Business:

On a motion by Bill Wagner and agreement by all, the meeting was adjourned.

Vito and Jim Fleming mentioned June 26 is the 40th Anniversary of The Hideout. Fred Beermann indicated the Craft Fair banners are in need of replacement. Fred reviewed the cost for the replacement banners. Bill Dimmick made a motion to purchase three new banners and Dom Lucarelli seconded. All present agreed and Fred was directed to proceed with the purchase. Tom K indicated a planter with a trellis was being made as a donation to be used at the Salute to the Troops. A discussion regarding donations followed and all were reminded the Woodworkers would continue to construct items and donated same to the organization trying to raise funds; these items may then be used as a fund-raiser by that organization.

Mike Loughlin indicated we have the same number of tables as last year for the show on May 29. Raffle items are completed and look great. The area for our sale of raffle tickets and bake sale were established. The table setup for the crafters was discussed. Mike will provide the crafter names for the main gate. Volunteers will be needed for Friday, May 28 at 1 pm to set up tables.

Hideout Woodworkers Draft Minutes of Meeting - April 13, 2010 

MINUTES:

In Dave Testa’s absence, Richard Martinez read minutes from March 9 meeting. Motion to accept minutes was approved by those present.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

Jim Fleming thanked Joe Stach for filling in for two months in his absence. He reminded everyone that the dues for the year are due. Jim read the Treasurer’s report for months of January, February, and March, 2010, copies are on file. Jim told members that we have two accounts. Jim Lagrosa wanted to know how many members have paid their dues. Jim Fleming told Jim Lagrosa that we have 60 paid up members. Respectfully submitted by Jim Fleming, Vito asked for report to be accepted as read. Members approved it.

CORRESPONDENCE:

Vito said he has two letters. The first letter involved Community Manager Ralph Graf and stated the following: as we discussed at our last meeting, The Hideout Woodworkers have now established a separate account in the Pennstar Bank for the Scholarship fund. The second letter was from Walter Porr and Sam Pantiliano and it involved raising funds for the Troops and the NYFD Burn Center. After some discussion it was decided to have the Hideout Woodworkers Executive Board review this matter.

SICKNESS & DISTRESS:

Jane Reinhardt had heart surgery and will return home soon. A get-well card will be sent to her home.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Al Auricchio spoke about the golf outing at York on May 10, 11, and 12 and he said it was posted on the bulletin board.

House:

Members are not cleaning up after themselves, the coffee fund is low and no one is showing up for the Friday cleanup. Safety: Paint brushes and rags are still being left soaking in cans. Training: Ken Wenz reported there were no training sessions. Publicity: Fred Beermann said the next Woodworkers meeting has been cancelled and the new date will be May 18. Junior Woodworkers notice will be submitted to the Hideabout. Tools & Purchase: Joe Nelson said that the jigsaw was mailed out on March 23 and will take 4 to 6 weeks before we can get an estimate. Joe said we could buy a new one for $159.99. It was voted on and approved by membership.

OLD BUSINESS:

Mike Loughlin indicated the “Craft Show” on May 29, 2010 is sold out. Mike made a complete report on all aspects concerning this event.

NEW BUSINESS:

On a motion by Andy Vuolo, the meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted,

Scholarship fund applications are due May 21, 2010. The amount to be awarded to this fund was agreed to by the members present. Andy Vuolo suggested we change our dues to amenity fees. Members would be required to pay $36.00 and $10.00 for raffle books and seconded by Ben Carapella. After some discussion it was decided to have the Hideout Woodworkers Executive Board review this item. The Board shall report back to the membership at the next meeting.

Woodworkers Draft Minutes of Meeting - March 9, 2010

  The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  There were 22 members present including Vice Presidents Charlie David and Al Auricchio.  Vito Montone, President, Jim Fleming, Treasurer and Dave Testa, Secretary were not present.
MINUTES:  In Dave Testa’s absence, Bill Dimmick read the minutes from the January 12 meeting.  Motion to accept minutes as read was approved by those present.
TREASURER’S REPORT:  Since Jim Fleming was not present, there was no Treasurer Report.
CORRESPONDENCE:  There was no correspondence.
SICKNESS & DISTRESS:  Thankfully, there were no members mentioned.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:  
Social Scene:  Al Auricchio reminded all of the upcoming WSB Yankees Baseball Game on Friday, July 16 and there were 50 tickets available at $13 each.  Al also indicated the dates for the York Trip would be May 10-12 with additional information to be available at future meetings.
House, Buildings, Safety, Publicity, and Scholarship:  Nothing to report on any of these committees. 
Training:  Ken Wenz reported there were five new members at three training sessions.
  With regard to the Scholarship fund, Walter Porr indicated it was brought up at the September 2009 meeting about Article 7 of the agreement with the Hideout regarding the use of any fund raisers for anything but the operation and maintenance of the shop.  He then indicated he had done some research on this item and after reviewing January 2006 through September 2007 Woodworkers Minutes he was not able to find any reference regarding the approval of the Scholarship and he felt this item should not exist. 
  Since there was no report from the Scholarship committee, this item was tabled until all executive members were available and a quorum of the membership was in attendance for discussion and voting if necessary.  Ben Carapella then indicated he felt there was a lackadaisical attitude regarding items of this nature.  This discussion was also tabled until all executive members were available and a quorum of the membership was in attendance.
Tools & Purchase:  Joe Nelson indicated the list of item discussed at the previous meeting had been purchased and were available in the shop and the guard for the table saw has been replaced.  Discussion regarding the repair of equipment was then brought up and Tom K indicated there was a list of members who had agreed to work on the repairs but the list was not available.  This will be followed up at future meetings.
OLD BUSINESS:  At this time there was nothing to discuss regarding old business.
NEW BUSINESS:  Mike Loughlin indicated the letters for the craft fair on May 29 had been sent to prospective dealers and as of today he has received checks for 30 tables and he felt there would be as many as last year.  Mike also asked if the items for the raffle were decided on and if they were going to be available for display at the craft fair.  Charlie David indicated there was one item completed and a second was in the process.  Mike also questioned the use of tables and how they would be delivered to the area.  These items would be discussed at future meetings.  He added volunteers would be needed for the sale of the raffle tickets at the craft fair. 
ADJOURNMENT:  Next Meeting will be April 13.  At this time, Walter Porr asked for volunteers for the Friday clean up.  Ben Carapella asked it there was any status regarding the construction of the items for the basement of the Clubhouse.  Since there was no answer at this time, Ben was asked to bring this subject up at the next meeting.  On a motion by Andy Vuolo, the meeting was adjourned.

Hideout Woodworkers Meeting - Draft Minutes January 12, 2010
  The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 18 members present.
MINUTES:  In Dave Testa’s absence, Bill Dimmick read minutes from the November 10, 2009 meeting.  Motion to accept minutes as read was made by Art Shelko and all approved.
TREASURER’S REPORT:  In Jim Fleming’s absence, Joe Stach presented the Treasurer’s Report for December, 2009. A copy is on file.  On a motion by Andy Vuolo, the report was accepted as read by all.
CORRESPONDENCE:   Vito mentioned he had been contacted by Mr. Schumacher regarding the material costs associated with the construction of the bar and counter for the new room in the basement of the Clubhouse.  Vito talked with Bill Reinhardt and has asked him to prepare this information.  Additionally, Bill will be working on this project but will need help from other members.
SICKNESS & DISTRESS:  It was noted Mike Nestor was back in the hospital and well wishes were expressed.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:  Social Scene:  Al Auricchio discussed the upcoming WSB Yankees Baseball Game on Friday, July 16 and the price will be $13.00 per ticket.  Also, the picnic is scheduled for August 10, 2010.  Additional information will be forthcoming regarding the York trip.
  Vito had a discussion with Larry Lutz regarding the Rebhun Classic.  It has been suggested that the Classic and the Annual Dinner Dance be combined for the same week or even the same day.  Tentative dates are during the week of September 14.  Vito ask all to consider this and it will be discussed at further meetings.
House, Buildings, Safety, Publicity, Scholarship and Training:  Nothing to report.   
Tools & Purchase:  Joe Nelson has a list of items needed.  After some discussion by Andy and Tony Sabia, Charlie David and Joe Stach will review the list with Joe Nelson so the needed items may be purchased.
OLD BUSINESS: Vito thanked Jim Lagrosa and Jim Black for the great time at the holiday lunch.
  Vito mentioned a discussion with Ralph Graf regarding the borrowing of tools from the shop.  The insurance company indicated the tools could be lent out to Woodworker members, but that it was not recommended.  Vito indicated that the policy of borrowing hand tools by members of the Woodworkers will continue, but that the member will be doing so at their own risk.  A new sign out sheet is available.
  Vito indicated the By Law committee members are preparing any changes or additions and hope to have them available soon.  Vito also indicated these will no longer be referred to as By Laws since the Wood Shop is an Amenity of The Hideout, we are governed by the By Laws of the POA.  Therefore the committee will present the Rules and Regulations for the Woodworkers for discussion, hopefully, at the May meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:  The craft show is coming soon.  Dom Lucarelli will call Mike Loughlin regarding the letters which will be needed to be mailed this month.  Also Vito reminded all to get their 2010 dues.
  Dave Pierce mentioned the Census Bureau are looking for people to fill many of the jobs.  Brochures are available or you can contact the Bureau in Scranton.
ADJOURNMENT:  Next meeting will be March 9.  On a motion by Bill Wagner, the meeting was adjourned.
